Writer's Notebook

Hi friends!

Stopping by to share with you my new Writer's Notebook. I created this for my 2nd Graders for this upcoming year! We are already going to use a Reader's Notebook that has sections and is bound together for our Reader's Workshop, so I decided to create a similar one for our Writer's Workshop..

I am going to put this packet into a binder this year and see how it goes...

There are 7 sections to this notebook;

Individual Goals and Progress Sheets-Form Included
Student Record of Writing Projects-Form included
Writer's Talk Notes
Mini-Lesson Notes-Form included
Seeds {Brainstorming}-Form included
500 High Frequency Words List
Interesting Words-Form Included

Here is a peek inside the notebook!

Notebook Cover .....
There is a title page/section divider for each section...

This is for the Interesting Words section... I created this so that students can find and record interesting words from their reading or others' writing and then use those interesting words in their own writing.

1 out of 4 pages in the HFW list...

This is the seeds section... to help students brainstorm ideas to write about..

This is in the mini-lesson Notes section.. I created this form for my 2nd graders to start to learn how to take notes. I didn't want to just throw them to the wolves and give them blank paper to take notes. I wanted to scaffold them into learning how to take notes...

This is for students to keep record of their writing projects...

This is for the students to keep track of their writing goals... I will have the students fill one of these out each 9 weeks. SO, in each binder the student will have 4 of these sheets...

If you like what you see, you can get this Writer's Notebook Packet at my TPT store. Click HERE to get it!

I finally got back into my classroom today! Lots of things are done and can't wait to share my final classroom pictures with y'all!

  1. I really like this! I'm thinking about getting for my class...I also teach 2nd near Houston. I like using composition notebooks for writing, but I was thinking maybe these pages could go into a folder with prongs or something...Every time I visit your blog I think it's so pretty :)
